Message from the Seychelles-Cuba Friendship Association.
SEYCHELLES, December 31th, 2010. On 1st January, 2011, the Cuban people, in Cuba and wherever else in the world they may be, will rejoice in celebrating the 52nd anniversary of their Revolution. A Revolution that has survived countless destabilising attempts aimed at bringing a heroic people to its knees. More than half a century later, it is a Revolution that is still moving forward and taking on new challenges in an effort to better the life of an entire nation.
It has not been an easy year for the Cuban people, as the economic blockade imposed by the powerful northern neighbour continues to bite, despite overwhelming condemnation by the nations of the world. But the spirit of the Cuban Revolution as manifested in its people has remained true to form. You were the first to be in Haiti in January, and you are still there helping now to alleviate the cholera epidemic, whilst other countries and aid organisations have disappeared having made little difference to that devastated country. You have continued to selflessly assist in various ways many other countries in the world who need your expertise, such that is not forthcoming from the developed world. You move forward into the New Year preparing to give new impetus to the Revolution.
Tonight, some Seychellois who have graduated from Cuban institutions and others who have never visited Cuba will join Cuban residents and the Cuban Brigade at the Cuban Embassy in Victoria to, not only usher in the New Year, but also salute the Cuban Revolution as it celebrates its 52nd anniversary. We join this celebration because we care about the Cuban people, because we care about the Cuban revolution.
It is our way of saying thank you for all the assistance that Cuba has given Seychelles over the last 30 or so years.
Happy 52nd Anniversary of the Revolution! Feliz Año Nuevo! Hasta la Victoria Siempre!
