“Cuba is confident that humanity will find the path towards the elimination of poverty by 2030,
leaving no one behind”.
New York, 20 July 2016. As part of the Ministerial Segment of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, Cuba noted today that many are the challenges humanity shall overcome to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, while leaving nobody behind. At this forum, the Cuban delegate, Emilio Gonzáles Soca, called upon the use of huge financial resources allocated to military conflicts and situations of violence, to foster development and the well-being of the world population, so as to build up an environment of peace and international security, which will contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
While describing the democratic and participative discussion process carried out in Cuba, comprising all of the population, for the elaboration of an economic and social model aimed at achieving a prosperous and sustainable socialism, and also referring to Cuba´s contribution to the social and economic development of many countries in the South, despite the US blockade in force for more than 50 years, the Cuban diplomat ensured Cuba’s full commitment with the 2030 Agenda and our country’s full confidence that humanity will find the path towards the elimination of poverty by 2030, leaving no one behind.
