Press Release. Cuba reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the Charter of the Organization at the UN Security Council.
New York, 23 February.- Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Reyes Rodríguez reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to the Charter of the United Nations, particularly its principles and purposes, in a speech delivered on February 23 at the Security Council of the Organization.
He underscored that the maintenance of international peace and security presuppose the unconditional respect for the principles of the UN Charter and International Law. He added that on the 70th anniversary of the United Nations Organization, Member States should complete the necessary reforms in order to strengthen the Organization and definitively transform the Security Council into a democratic, transparent and participatory Organ, in tune with the evolutions experienced by the Organization and the World in the past seven decades, and a more effective participation of the international community in solving global problems.
Ambassador Rodríguez also highlighted that Cuba will continue to contribute with its modest resources to the welfare of the peoples, especially the neediest, and to support international cooperation in order to achieve sustainable development with inclusion and in defense of international peace and security.
