Postage stamp in honour of the Heroic Guerilla in Ireland

 Ireland, October 5, 2017. Today An Post put up for sale a postage stamp for the 50th anniversary of the death of Ernesto Che Guevara, decided by examination of an independent committee, the Committee (PAC), which recommended its inclusion among the themes of the 2017 annual program, after which the Board of Directors ratified it, was sent to the Government for final approval.

Tribute to the victims of Great Irish Famine

 September 30th, 2017. Ambassador Hermes Herrera deposited an offering on behalf of Cuba as a tribute to the victims of the Great Irish Famine (An Ghorta Mhóir in Irish), which occurred between 1845 and 1851 where thousands of people died and thousands more had to emigrate.

This annual commemoration takes place in different localities and this year corresponded to the county of Tipperary, province of Munster.

The ceremony was chaired by Leo Varadkar T.D., Prime Minister (Taoiseach) and Heather Humphreys T.D., Minister of Culture, Heritage and Gaeltacht, in the presence of county officials, ecclesiastical representatives, the diplomatic corps resident in Dublin and the general public. (Embacuba Irlanda)

Receives president of Ireland to ambassador of Cuba

 Ireland, September 13, 2017. Ireland's President Michael D. Higgins received at the Presidential House in a farewell audience at the end of his Mission to Cuban Ambassador Hermes Herrera.

President Higgins expressed his solidarity with Cuba over the serious damage caused by Hurricane Irma as it passed through the north coast of the island.

The ambassador emphasized the persistence and impact of the United States' economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, expressing its appreciation for the repeated Irish vote against it at the United Nations General Assembly.

During the friendly dialogue was recalled the recent presidential visit to Cuba, found mutual satisfaction for the favorable development of bilateral ties and reiterated the will to continue expanding them, as corresponds to peoples with strong ties of friendship. (CUBAMINREX-EMBACUBAIRLANDA)

Meeting with Dublin Lord Mayor

 Ireland, August 29, 2017. Ambassador Hermes Herrera hosted a dinner last night in honor of the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mícheál Mac Donncha.

The meeting discussed the collaboration between the Lord Mayor and the Embassy and the continuity of the support offered by this institution to cultural and diplomatic activities of the Cuban Mission.

It was also noted the enormous progress of public health in Cuba and the support that the island offers in that and other fields to many countries in the world.

The Ambassador updated information on the brutal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed unilaterally and arbitrarily by the United States against Cuba for over half a century, the claim of our country from part of our territory occupied by the illegal Guantánamo naval base and the need for Continue the actions of solidarity with Cuba.

Memorandum of Cooperation between Cuba and Ireland comes into force

 Ireland, 24 August 2017. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland has confirmed the completion of the corresponding internal processes for the entry into force on 9 August 2017 of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Cuba and the Government of Ireland signed in Havana by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Cuba Antonio Luis Carricarte Corona and the Minister of State for Justice of Ireland Deputy David Stanton.
The purpose of this Agreement is to establish an appropriate general framework for cooperation between the two nations.(EMBACUBA IRLANDA)).

Meeting of Ambassador with Parliamentary Group of Friendship Ireland Cuba

 Ireland 22 June 2017. The second meeting of Ambassador Hermes Herrera with the Friendship Group with Cuba in the Irish Parliament, made up of representatives of all the political forces that make up the legislative body, took place yesterday afternoon.

Constituted Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba in Parliament of Ireland

In a letter addressed to the President of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba, Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández, the President (Ceann Comhairle) of the Parliament of Ireland, Seán O Fearghaíl, TD, reports that the Group was constituted Of Friendship of Ireland with Cuba (32nd and 25th of Dáil and Seanad, 2017) ..

In the text of the letter expresses the desire that the establishment of this parliamentary group serve to further strengthen the warm and lasting ties of friendship between our two countries. He was appointed as Coordinator of the Group (Convenor), Congressman Thomas Pringle. Inaugurated photographic exhibition "This is Cuba"

 Ireland, March 10, 2017. The exhibition "This is Cuba" by Irish photographer Lynn Feeney was inaugurated last night with a selection of photos taken in Cuba between 2011 and 2016.
In the words of inauguration, the author expressed her satisfaction to have been able to know the country and especially her people who she described as hospitable and generous and said she felt very close to this people that captivated her
Ambassador Hermes Herrera on the other hand pointed out the importance given by Cuba to the cultural sector even in hard financial conditions due to the blockade of which the cou0ntry is victim and the efforts for the artistic and literary formation of the Cuban young people.

The Ceann Comhairle receives the Ambassador of Cuba

Cuba and Ireland are united by a sense worthy of freedom

 Ireland, February 18, 2017. This Friday, on the last day of his visit to Cuba, Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland, during a keynote address from the Aula Magna of the San Gerónimo College, University of Havana, explained that In spite of its geographic remoteness, very much unites to these two islands: that they have a sense worthy of freedom and share the experience of having lived under the shadow of a powerful neighboring nation.
In this difficult context, Higgins noted, Cuba is distinguished by its ability to provide free basic services such as health and education.

We welcome this new stage of relations between Cuba and the United States, and between Cuba and the European Union, he said.

Visit to the Institute of Tropical Medicine Pedro Kourí (IPK)

Michael D. Higgins, was received by the Minister of Health, Roberto Morales Ojeda at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Pedro Kourí (IPK).
In the last activity of his official visit, Higgins was informed on Friday about the progress of the IPK capacity building project with the Irish side, oriented to molecular diagnosis in virology and developed jointly between the Cuban institution and the University of Dublin .
