Cuba and Indonesia discussed parliamentary exchanges

INDONESIA, January 20, 2016. The Ambassador of Cuba, Nirsia Castro Guevara and the General Secretary of the Indonesian Parliament Dr. Hj. Winantuningtyastiti examined the possibilities for developing the exchange of experiences on the work of parliaments, through links between the General Secretary of the national legislature and the Secretary of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba.

During a working meeting held today at the National Legislature in Jakarta, both sides discussed the tasks entrusted to the respective organizations and the role played by the General Secretariat of the Indonesian Parliament in the implementation of actions for developing cooperation in different areas of parliamentary activity, which shows remarkable results.

Dr. Winantuningtyastiti recalled that last year the parliament created 49 groups of parliamentary cooperation, including one Indonesia-Cuba. He referred to visits to the island made in 2010 and 2012 by the predecessor of the current parliamentary cooperation group and the intention to give continuity to such actions.

For his part, Ambassador of Cuba took the opportunity to thank the Indonesian Parliament, through its General Secretary, for the support given to his country in confronting economic and commercial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States, whose aims and measures are intact, despite the call made by President Barack Obama to Congress for lifting it and the executive powers that allow the President to substantially modify its application.
