Cuban ambassador visits the Speaker of the Parliament of Indonesia

Jakarta 19 March 2015. The Speaker of the Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia Hon. Mr. Zulkifli Hasan, received the Cuban Ambassador Enna Viant V. at the headquarters of the legislature, occasion which served to reaffirm the development of parliamentary relations and discuss the projection of future actions. The Cuban ambassador thanked the support given by the Indonesian parliament in condemning the blockade against Cuba, also ratified by previous speakers and in correspondence with the support of the Indonesian government to Cuban resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. Although blockade is not ended she said that President Obama had taken a positive step in its policy towards Cuba and using his presidential prerogatives could go emptying the contents of laws that sustain it, allowing more constructive relations. About updating the Cuban economic model, considered that provides opportunities to expand relations with Indonesian businessmen. For his part, the Speaker was informed of the progress of talks between Cuba and the US after the announcement of the restoration of diplomatic relations, the future steps in the process of normalizing relations and the situation in Latin America. He said that Cuba is a true friend of Indonesia and recognized Cuban aid in difficult times. Finally, he thanked the invitation made by the President of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo and reciprocated the friendly gesture.
