Cuba denounces at the Human Rights Council the violation of human rights of the Cuban people the US blockade represents.
Geneva, March 15, 2016. The Permanent Representative of Cuba, Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, speaking at the 31st regular session of the Human Rights Council, denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, as a violation of the human rights of an entire people and the main obstacle to the full development of the country.
The Cuban diplomat spoke at the General Debate of Item 4 of the Agenda of the Human Rights Council "Human rights situations that require the Council's attention" with a speech in which she rejected the political manipulation, selectivity and double standards in dealing with the issue of human rights which, she said, must cease once and for all.
The General Debate was held exactly ten years after the United Nations General Assembly, under its resolution 60/251, established the Human Rights Council. Referring to this historical moment the Cuban Ambassador called for respect for the principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity and constructive international dialogue and cooperation to enhance the promotion and protection of all human rights, as so decided by the UN Member States a decade ago.
