Friends of Cuba celebrate in Geneva another victory against the blockade in the UN General Assembly.
Geneva, 27 October 2015. Ambassadors and diplomats from member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA), together with representatives of the Switzerland-Cuba Friendship Association and other friends joined the workers of the Cuban diplomatic mission in this city to celebrate the new victory of the Cuban people in the United Nations General Assembly in rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
The attendees to this traditional meeting listened, through direct connection to the television signal of the New York UN headquarters, the speeches of the speakers at this session of the General Assembly, where the debate and vote took place on the draft resolution submitted by Cuba unequivocally calling for the lifting of unilateral sanctions imposed on the island.
After hearing the intervention of Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, among hugs and great excitement, there was a moment of joy when 191 countries supported the draft resolution, in a historic vote that demonstrated for the twenty-fourth consecutive time the unanimous support of the international community for the lifting of the embargo.
While grateful for the expressions of appreciation and congratulations made by the guests, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Geneva, Anayansi Rodriguez, confirmed the commitment of the Cuban people to continue struggling until the total and unconditional elimination of that unilateral sanction system, as well as to preserve its independence, strengthen its Socialist Revolution and continue the struggle for the just causes of the Third World.
The Cuban Ambassador also acknowledged the importance of the support provided by the international community, especially the ALBA countries to the battle being waged by the Caribbean island against the blockade for more than 55 years and said its removal is a prerequisite in the road towards the normalization of bilateral relations between Cuba and the United States.
All friends present in the activity renewed their commitment to continue supporting the demand for an end to the US blockade immediately and unconditionally.
