Ramón Labañino Salazar was born on 9 June 1963, in the bosom of a humble family of peasant origins, in Marianao municipality. He is the son of Nereyda Salazar Verduy, diseased, and Olmes Labañino Castillo.

He received his primary education at Arístides Viera Primary School, in La Lisa municipality, where he took on different responsibilities.

Between 1973 and 1976, he pursued his secondary studies at Osvaldo Rafael Sánchez secondary school, in La Lisa municipality, where he assumed student responsibilities at class and school levels.

He studied at Manolito Aguiar high school from 1976 to 1979, where he was selected an Outstanding and Prominent student on several occasions, developing an active political life.

From 1980 to 1986, he pursued university studies and majored in Economics. He graduated Summa Cum Laude at the University of Havana, being selected the most outstanding university graduate by the military department during the five years of the university course.

In 1987, he was granted membership into the Young Communist League and subsequently, in 1991, joined the Cuban Communist Party.

In June 1990, he married his current wife, Elizabeth Palmeiro Casado, with whom he has two daughters, Laura Labañino Palmeiro and Lisbet Labañino Palmeiro. Elizabeth is a university graduate in English Language and Literature and a member of the Cuban Communist Party.

Ramón has a daughter from a previous marriage, Ailí Labañino Cardoso.

Despite his long periods of absence, he has paid much attention to his daughters, constantly expressing his great love for them and showing his concern for their development and education.

From the beginning of the 1990s, he went on a mission in the United States, carrying out important and risky tasks against counterrevolutionary groups based in Miami that increased in a great deal the implementation of terrorist and destabilizing activities against Cuba in that decade.

He worked delivering medicines to several pharmacies of the Florida State and commercializing shoes.

His family is composed of his father, Olmes Labañino, retired; his sister Layde Labañino and his brothers Jorge Luis and Olmes Labañino.
